Schmehl, Jeramy I.


As an experienced trial attorney and legal advisor to the City of Albuquerque, Jeramy brings a diverse perspective to his work. Prior to joining Ray Peña McChristian, he was the lead attorney and manager of the Compliance Division where he addressed all legal matters related to the City of Albuquerque’s effort to achieve compliance with the Court Approved Settlement Agreement (CASA) with the United States Department of Justice. In this role, Jeramy worked daily with members of the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) to rework policies, training and protocols to comport with best police practices and principles of constitutional policing. Jeramy also served in a general counsel role to the Chief of Police and executive level staff.

While an attorney with the New Mexico Law Offices of the Public Defender, Jeramy successfully represented indigent defendants charged with the most serious violent felonies. During this time Jeramy gained significant experience selecting juries, arguing pretrial motions and advocating for his clients before juries.
